Drunken
drivers injure and kill countless people on our roads and highways. All too
often, drunk drivers lack adequate insurance coverage to compensate their
victims. Under many states' dram shop laws, a bar is responsible for serving
an already intoxicated or underage person. If that person, after drinking at a
bar or restaurant, then injures or kills another person, the owner of the bar,
as well as the employee who actually served the liquor is liable.
If you have been injured, or have lost a loved one
because of a drunk driver, don't sign away your right to sue the bar just
because an insurance company offers you a "policy limits" case on the driver's
liability coverage. You may be entitled to more compensation than the insurance
policy allows, but the insurance company's general settlement papers may
preclude any and all future additional settlements or lawsuits arising out of your injury by the drunk
driver.
Don't let the bar or restaurant off the hook. They
have a legal responsibility not to serve minors and those who are already
intoxicated. |
